Ngāpuhi Fisheries Ltd
Tuna population survey of Lake Omapere and the Utakura River
Te Wai Māori Trust supported Ngāpuhi Fisheries Ltd to gather baseline information required to monitor and adaptively manage the long-term well-being of the Lake Omapere tuna fishery. The information enabled Ngāpuhi to greater protect and enhance their tuna fishery and also to develop their commercial and customary management strategies for tuna.
This project was also coordinated in partnership with Te Rūnanga o Whangaroa, Ngāti Hine and others to begin the process of understanding the spatial distribution, abundance and growth of tuna in Te Tai Tokerau.
