Rāhui declared over Waikato and Wāipa awa

Wednesday 29 April 2020

On Monday, Kingi Tuheitia declared a rāhui over the Waikato and Wāipa awa.

The rāhui prohibits food gathering and all recreational activities on the waterways. It’s both a response to COVID-19 and about protecting the awa.

The rāhui applies to the entire length of the Waikato and Wāipa awa. There is no specific date set for when the rāhui will be lifted.
